Analysis of Latent Profiles of Health Literacy among Middle School Students using a Curriculum-Aligned Scale

초록

This study identified latent profiles of health literacy among middle school students using a curriculum-aligned scale and examined whether grade and gender predicted profile membership. Data were collected from 301 middle school students in G province using a 30-item health literacy instrument. Latent profile analysis and multinomial logistic regression were conducted using Mplus 8.0. A five-profile solution was selected as the optimal model: Low Level, Basic-Average, Intermediate-Good, Upper-General, and High Level. Among the five subdomains, scientific explanation and interpretation of health-related tests and indicators most clearly differentiated the profiles. Grade level significantly predicted profile membership. Compared with first-year students, second-year students were less likely to belong to higher-level profiles and more likely to belong to the low-level profile. Gender did not significantly predict profile membership. These findings indicate that adolescent health literacy is heterogeneous and suggest that curriculum-aligned health literacy education should place greater emphasis on scientific explanation and the interpretation of health-related tests and indicators.
