초록
This descriptive cross-sectional study examined the determinants of health literacy according to proficiency levels among older adults in Korea. Using data from the 2021 Korea Health Panel Survey, we analyzed 3,527 adults aged 65 years or older. Health literacy was measured using the HLS-EU-Q16 instrument and categorized as inadequate, borderline, or adequate, with the inadequate group serving as the reference. Overall, 54.7%, 23.3%, and 22.0% of participants were classified as inadequate, borderline, and adequate, respectively. Younger age, male sex, and higher education were associated with higher literacy. The effect of education was stronger in the adequate group (OR=3.81, p<.001). Income, number of chronic disease, and quality of life were significant only the adequate group. Regular exercise was positively associated with literacy acreoss all levels, with a stronger effect in the adequate group (OR=1.73, p<.001). These findings suggest that determinants of health literacy differ by level. Tailored interventions are needed for older adults with low education, female, and medical aid recipients to promote equity.
