실외 접지 환경(H4)에서 실외 접지 환경(H4)에서 알카리성 구리4급암모늄계(ACQ)로 방부 처리된 난주입수종의 방부 성능 평가

A 10-year outdoor ground-contact exposure test conducted in Jinju, Gyeongnam demonstrated the potential use of Alkaline Copper Quaternary(ACQ)-treated Canadian white spruce (Picea glauca) in ground contact (H4) environments. However, fungal decay became evident in some specimens after prolonged exposure. To comprehensively assess the causes of degradation, the field test was terminated, and the decay status of the specimens was examined, along with measurements of preservative retention and penetration depth. The treated spruce met the Korean preservative-treated wood quality standards (5.2 kg/m³ or higher) in terms of chemical retention, with most sapwood portions showing uniform treatment. However, the heartwood failed to achieve the minimum penetration depth of 8 mm specified in domestic standards, despite incising. Most decay occurred due to checks exposing untreated heartwood regions, particularly in ground-contact zones where moisture fluctuations facilitated repeated shrinkage and swelling. Checks were more prevalent in these areas compared to above-ground or buried sections. These findings indicate that ACQ-treated spruce, even when incised, may not be suitable for industrial applications requiring over 10 years of service life in H4 conditions, primarily due to insufficient heartwood penetration.
