초록

In indoor tank Manila clam aquaculture, juvenile rearing inevitably overlaps with the summer season, when elevated temperatures reduce the reliability of conventional microalgal production. This seasonal constraint creates a mismatch between feed availability and culture demand, highlighting the need for alternative live feed resources. This study evaluated the nutritional suitability of Spirulina maxima by comparing the growth performance of Ruditapes philippinarum fed conventional microalgae (Isochrysis galbana, Chaetoceros gracilis, Tetraselmis suecica), Spirulina alone, a mixed diet, and natural phytoplankton over a 6-week period. Two-way ANOVA revealed that experimental duration significantly influenced shell length, tissue wet weight, and condition index (p<0.0001), whereas the main effect of diet was not significant. Clams fed Spirulina alone exhibited growth comparable to those receiving conventional microalgae, indicating that Spirulina can maintain adequate nutritional support without causing growth depression. Notably, the mixed diet achieved growth performance and condition index comparable to the natural diet, suggesting a complementary nutritional effect when Spirulina is combined with conventional feeds. Unlike previous studies primarily focused on powdered or spray-dried Spirulina supplements, this study demonstrates the feasibility of live Spirulina as a feed resource for bivalves, with results indicating effective ingestion and utilization. Considering its stable production under high-temperature conditions, supplementing or partially replacing conventional microalgae with Spirulina maxima represents a practical feeding strategy that may enhance production stability and operational efficiency in indoor tank bivalve aquaculture. In particular, the results highlight the potential of live S. maxima as a high-temperature complementary or alternative feed during the land-based intermediate nursery phase of Manila clam, when conventional microalgal supply is often unstable.
