초록

A 13-year-old neutered male Maltese presented with decreased appetite, weight loss, and severe ptyalism. Thoracic radiography and computed tomography (CT) revealed a round, well-marginated intraluminal mass (1.8 × 1.6 × 1.2 cm) originating from the caudal esophageal wall and extending into the lumen. Concurrent endoscopic examination confirmed the presence of a solitary, round, pedunculated intraluminal mass. The mass was successfully removed using snare polypectomy. Histopathological evaluation and immunohistochemical staining confirmed the diagnosis of esophageal leiomyoma. Follow-up endoscopy performed 7 days later revealed no evidence of a residual mass or other adverse effects, except for mild esophagitis. Following tumor resection, the clinical signs improved rapidly and resolved completely. This case report describes an uncommon esophageal leiomyoma in a dog managed using a minimally invasive, non-surgical endoscopic approach, resulting in complete clinical remission. Given the technical challenges associated with surgical access to the esophagus, endoscopic resection may represent a clinically useful and less invasive alternative for the management of benign esophageal tumors. © The Korean Society of Veterinary Clinics.
