초록

This study examines the relationship between lifetime National Pension contribution periods and economic activity in later life, focusing on employment probability and labor income among individuals born between 1956 and 1961. Using data from the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study, the analysis covers individuals aged 60 to 64. For the birth cohorts analyzed in this study, National Pension contribution periods can be interpreted as a variable distinct from current pension receipt in later life, reflecting formal-sector labor market experience and life-course labor market heterogeneity across individuals. The results show that lifetime National Pension contribution periods are positively associated with employment probability in later life, and this relationship appears to be nonlinear rather than simply linear. Heterogeneity analyses by gender and education indicate that the positive association is relatively stronger among women and college-educated individuals. In contrast, the labor income analysis shows no clear average or linear relationship between National Pension contribution periods and labor income, and the patterns by gender and education are less consistent than those found in the employment probability analysis. These findings suggest that while employment probability in later life is relatively closely related to life-course labor market history, labor income after employment may be more strongly shaped by current job characteristics in later life, such as employment status and occupation
