Factors Affecting Dignified Nursing Care for Terminal Patients in a Tertiary Hospital Nurses

초록

This descriptive correlational study was performed to identify factors affecting the dignified nursing of terminal patients in a tertiary hospital. The participants were 196 nurses who had worked more than 12 months in tertiary hospitals and had experienced caring for terminal patients. Relationships between dignified nursing, positive perception of death, professionalism, and moral sensitivity were analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis, and factors influencing dignified nursing were analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis. Dignified nursing of terminal patients was significantly correlated (Pearson analysis) with perception of death, professionalism, and moral sensitivity, and was significantly predicted (hierarchical regression) by nursing professionalism and moral sensitivity. Hierarchical regression analysis showed the variables influencing dignified nursing were working department (p=.002) and need for education (p=.003) in Model 1, which had an explanatory rate of 12.5% (p<.001). The total explanatory rate of Model 2, which added nursing professionalism (p<.001) and moral sensitivity (p=.001), was 31.1% (p<.001). These findings provide important foundational data for the high-quality, dignified nursing of terminal patients.
