The Attractiveness of Dica-Poem and Dica-Sijoas a Popular Digital Literature DOI http://dx.doi.org/10.62783/SHSS.8.2.39 Yuji Jeong,* Wonil Choi,** & Eunjeong Kim*** Abstract: This study investigates the formal evolution of DiCa-Poem, a digital poetic genre characterized by the interaction between photographic signs and concise poetic utterances, and examines how DiCa-Poem and its derivative form, DiCa-Sijo, mediate between traditional Korean lyric poetry and contemporary digital art. The paper traces the emergence of DiCa-Poem since 2004 within the context of smartphone photography and rapidly expanding digital media environments. Applying the traditional classification framework of Korean poetry, it categorizes DiCa-Poems into three types: Free DiCa-Poem, Prose DiCa-Poem, and Formal DiCa-Poem. In addition, the study analyzes the hybrid structure of DiCa-Sijo, in which photographic images replace the first and middle verses of a conventional sijo, while the final verse is rendered as a condensed poetic utterance. Through this analysis, the study clarifies the internal typology of DiCa-Poem and demonstrates how DiCa-Sijo generates a distinctive multimodal aesthetic by integrating visual and verbal modes. The study concludes that DiCa-Poem and DiCa-Sijo occupy a unique position at the intersection of traditional lyric poetry and digital media art, offering a meaningful model for the modernization and global dissemination of Korean poetic forms.
