15세기 순경음 비읍 ‘ㅸ’의 음가와 변화에 대한 고찰 ―‘β>w’ 규칙의 타당성을 중심으로―

초록

In this paper, I identify the phonetic value of ‘ㅸ’ in the 15th century and how it has changed since then. These issues have been discussed since the early days of Korean language history research and there are a wide variety of opinions about them. In Chapter 2, I review studies that determined the sound value of ‘ㅸ’ to be ‘w’, ‘ɸ’, ‘b(bw)’, ‘v’ and ‘β̞’ show that it is reasonable to view the sound value of ‘ㅸ’ as ‘β’. In Chapter 3, I review studies that explain that the pronunciation of ‘ㅸ’ changed by changing its distinctive features and the β>ɦw and ɦ>w rules and show that it is reasonable to explain that changes in the pronunciation of ‘ㅸ’changed by the β>w rule. Most research on ‘ㅸ’ has been focused on the β>w problem and trying to solve it. However, there are few discussions about whether this problem and its solutions are valid and responses to critiques of the β>w rule. This paper addresses these points, so it takes a different perspective from other diachronic ‘ㅸ’ and related papers. By accepting the β>w rule, this paper has explained changes in ‘ㅸ’ in more detail than other studies.
