초록

This letter presents a compact dual-polarized rectenna array for 5.8 GHz wireless power transfer (WPT). By integrating U-shaped defected ground structures (DGSs), the inter-element spacing is reduced to λ0/3 without degrading radiation performance, breaking the conventional λ0/2 limit. The cross-polarized layout provides robust performance against polarization mismatch. Measurements demonstrate approximately 12% higher RF power density per unit area compared to conventional arrays, with stable reception across varying polarization angles. RF power combining reduces rectifier count by 75%. The proposed design is well-suited for space-constrained applications in IoT devices, UAVs, and wireless sensor networks. © 2026 Wiley Periodicals LLC.
