High-temperature structural design and integrity evaluation was performed for a Type 316L stainless steel hot tank in the 700°C large-scale Thermal Energy Storage vErification Test loop (TESET) constructed at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). The hot tank is a high-temperature component connected to a hot leg pipipg where a 700°C sodium coolant flows in the TESET facility. RCC-MRx, a high-temperature design rule, provides design procedures and material properties for pressure boundary components & piping operating in the creep range, but the creep properties of Type 316L stainless steel are currently available up to 600°C. In this study, creep properties were developed up to 700°C based on the Wilshire-Equation for high-temperature design and integrity evaluation. It was shown that Type 316L stainless steel can be used for a limited time duration in a hot tank of the 700°C TESET facility.
