In Maecheon Hwang hyeon's collection of writings, there are three poems called "The Posthumous Works of haeseok's poetry." In this poem, Mae-cheon highly praised The Posthumous Works of Haeseok, but the person to be evaluated in this poem was not known at all until recently. The author was introduced as Kim Jae-chan(김재찬), a famous politician and literary man in the late Joseon Dynasty, based on the title of “Haeseok”, but the author of this collection of poems is Lee Sang-myeon(이상면: 1870-1921), whose main working area is in Gokseong, Jeonla province. His title is Haeseok(해석), pseudonym is Ikseo(익서), and the family clan is the Seongju(성주). The poems he left were included in The Posthumous Works of Haeseok, which was edited and completed in 1941 by Lee Sang-hyeok(이상혁) after Lee Sang- myeon's death. This book is compiled in chronological order of beginning, and contains over a thousand poems from 1899 to 1920. This book contains poems that he composed while he was invited by Chojueong Kim Seong-gyu(김성규) in Seoul, to write poetry, and while he toured Mt. Geumgang via Gangwon-do. In addition, Hwang Hyeon criticized some poems in this book twice, and it can be seen that the first 20 numbers and the second 80 numbers were evaluated very positively. The appendices and footnotes of this book introduce the contents of Hwang Hyeon's reading and evaluation of Lee Sang-myeon's poems. Hwang Hyeon looked at his poem and said, “my eyebrows raised and shrugged, sang quietly and danced little by little, and I praised the poems with a lot of check marks.” He was stingy in evaluating other people's poems, so he was nicknamed 'Hwang jakdaegi(황작대기),' but he said “people would not call me Hwang jakdaegi any more." Hwang Hyeon's praise for Lee Sang-myeon does not end there. After reading Lee Sang-myeon's poems, he composed three verse poems, and each poem highly appreciates Lee Sang-myeon's poetry in many ways. In the first poem, it is said that Lee Sang-myeon's poem was beautifully elaborated, but not too decorative. In the second poem, he said, Lee Sang-myeon's poem opened a new realm unlike other people's poetry, even though no one recognized it. In the third poem, he revealed that Lee Sang-myeon had a deep connection with poets such as Choi Kyung-chang(최경창) and Baek Kwang-hoon(백광훈) of the Samdang faction, famous poets of Honam.
