초록
This paper explores the recontextualization of K-pop identity through the influx of folk music. To this end, we first examined discussions by Brackett, Baba, and Kanclini on the theory of music genre and hybridity, and examined the aspects from four perspectives through analysis of K-pop texts and theoretical examination. Accordingly, the changes in K-pop identity through the acceptance of folk music were discussed from the perspectives of 1. multilayering of emotional expression and expansion of aesthetic horizons, 2. restoration of creative subjectivity and differentiation of identity narratives, 3. cultural mechanism for modern appropriation of traditional resources, and 4. reconstruction of the emotional structure of the Korean Wave. These results ultimately show that K-pop is a complex cultural phenomenon that goes beyond music, and its identity is also in a process of continuous and fluid change in a new cultural context. In addition, we were able to examine the contextual function that K-pop has in the history of Korean popular music, as the Korean musical resource called folk seeks its own modern survival and continuation through this.
