Energy management with the development of novel energy storage devices has gained great consideration recently owing to the global energy crisis. The development of efficient electrochemical energy storage devices such as supercapacitors is essential to resolve the energy crisis in a sustainable manner. The electrode-active materials are of the prime importance in developing a supercapacitor. Metal chalcogenide-based supercapacitor electrodes are highly preferred for supercapacitor electrodes due to their excellent charge storage properties that arise from the redox properties. Bismuth sulfides are environmentally friendly electrode-active materials for sustainable energy storage. Herein, we report the bismuth sulfide-based electrode active materials for application in high-performance supercapacitors. Initially, we discuss the various methods available for synthesizing bismuth sulfide-based electrodes and further discuss the properties of nanostructure bismuth sulfide-based materials. The electrochemical performance evaluations of supercapacitor electrodes are reviewed in depth with the help of sophisticated evaluation tools such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and charge/discharge measurements. The development of bismuth sulfide-based electrodes helps in developing low-cost supercapacitors to power the next-generation electric vehicles. © 2026 Wiley-VCH GmbH.
