Development of Educational Program for VR Content Creation for Middle School Students using Delightex

초록

This study presents the development and implementation of a virtual reality (VR) content creation education program for middle school students using the Delightex platform, in which students design and implement a VR-based electronic voting system as a capstone project. In order to cultivate digital literacy, computational thinking, and understanding of the metaverse required in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and digital transformation, the program moves beyond abstract, grammar-centered programming instruction and adopts project-/problem-based learning (PBL) that reflects real social needs. Delightex, a web-based VR/AR authoring tool, supports block coding, 3D environment construction, multi-user functionality, and REST API integration, thereby providing an immersive and interactive content development environment even for learners with little prior coding experience. The curriculum was structured into four stages: preparation, learning, project, and evaluation. In the preparation stage, students learned the basic concepts of the metaverse and VR/AR and practiced fundamental Delightex operations. In the learning stage, they systematically acquired core skills such as 3D scene design, object and animation placement, event-based interaction using conditions and variables, and multimedia integration. During the project stage, student teams designed an electronic voting system and implemented key functions-including user authentication, prevention of duplicate voting, configuration of participation thresholds and approval conditions, and real-time tallying and result display. In the evaluation stage, the final products were assessed in terms of functional completeness, user experience, creativity, and error handling, and students enhanced their metacognition and self-directed learning through presentations and reflection. The results indicate that students not only improved their programming knowledge but also developed an integrated understanding of security and fairness related to electronic voting. The results demonstrate that the STEAM-integrated, VR-based project approach was found to meaningfully increase learning motivation and engagement.
