Preparation and Characterization of the High Loading Sulfur Cathode with Activated Carbon Cloth for Lithium-Sulfur Battery

초록

As the electric vehicle market expanded, the demand for high energy density batteries for large-scaleapplication was increasing. A lithium/sulfur battery has been one of potential candidate because of the high theoreticalenergy density of 2600 Wh kg−1. In order to obtain high practical energy density, the developing ofhigh loading sulfur electrode should be essential. However, previous methods of impregnating the 3D currentcollector with sulfur required several complex steps. We suggested the new sulfur impregnation method intoporous activated carbon cloth which was a simple slurry casting process on the current collector. By impregnatingthe pores with sulfur through this process, a high loading electrode of 6 mg cm−2 was prepared and representedstable cycling performance, i.e 948 mAh g−1after 120 cycles.
