초록
Diabetes patients with multiple chronic conditions have a significantly reduced quality of life, and although health literacy has been theoretically proposed as a protective factor that could buffer the negative impact of disease burden, evidence remains inconclusive. This study examined whether health literacy moderates the association between the number of chronic conditions and quality of life among diabetic patients using data from the 2021 Korea Health Panel Survey. After exclusions, the data of 1,265 patients were analyzed. Quality of life was measured using EQ-5D and health literacy by HLS-EU-Q16. Tobit regression analysis was performed to account for ceiling effects. Subjective health status, regular exercise, and employment status were significant predictors of quality of life, while disability and number of comorbidities were negative predictors. Although health literacy had a direct positive effect on quality of life, it did not moderate the relationship between the number of chronic conditions and quality of life. The absence of a moderating effect suggests that health literacy alone cannot mitigate the burden of multiple chronic conditions in diabetic patients.
