Study on the Performance Requirements and Material Qualification System of Aerospace Sealants

초록

This study addresses the qualification criteria and approval processes for aerospace sealants in the context of AMS 3281. The primary objective is to reinterpret specification-based requirements from a design-oriented perspective and clarify the link between material characterization and manufacturing control within the certification framework. The core performance attributes, including sealing integrity, environmental durability, resistance to fluid exposure, and process applicability, are examined through a structured assessment of specification-defined test regimes. In parallel, the roles of the Process Control Document (PCD) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) are evaluated with respect to process consistency and data traceability. The analysis demonstrated that sealant performance arises from the combined influence of formulation, process variables, and service conditions rather than isolated material properties. Qualification is defined as the combined evaluation of compliance and process robustness. The findings provide a systematic interpretation of aerospace sealant certification and suggest directions for enhancing the domestic qualification infrastructure.
