의미적 신어를 활용한 ‘국어의미론’의 교육 방향 ― ‘주접’의 의미를 중심으로 ―

초록

This study examines the phenomenon in which the word “jujeop” is used in ways that depart from its traditional negative connotations. By analyzing the mechanisms driving this semantic change and the patterns of its expansion, this study proposes directions for integrating these findings into Korean semantics education. Recently, the usage of “jujeop” has extended beyond its dictionary definition, appearing with diverse meanings in specific discourse contexts. A particularly notable feature is the shift from a negative to a positive nuance, which can be interpreted as a change in semantic prosody—the emotional attitude assigned to a word. This reversal of meaning serves as a primary basis for defining “jujeop” as a semantic neologism. To empirically verify these patterns of change, this study examined news texts based on web discourse to analyze the actual contexts in which “jujeop” occurs and its patterns of collocation. The findings confirm that linguistic play and evolving modes of emotional expression within specific discourse communities are closely linked to this semantic expansion. This suggests that the meaning of “jujeop” is undergoing a process of establishing itself as a new expressive form at a sociolinguistic level. Such patterns of semantic expansion offer significant implications for Korean Semantics education, as language analysis centered on authentic data bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world usage. In conclusion, the semantic change of “jujeop” serves as a practical case study for learners to explore the processes of language evolution and meaning formation.
