1946~1949년 人民日報 ‘生活’의 의미 분포와 개념적 은유 추이에 대한 코퍼스 기반 분석

This study investigates the semantic distribution of shēnghuó (生活, ‘life/living’), diachronic shifts in its conceptual metaphor types, and their systematic correspondences in the People’s Daily (人民日報) from 1946 to 1949, drawing on corpus-based methods. From 42,301 articles, 14,998 KWIC concordance lines were extracted and subjected to collocate analysis and semantic type classification, yielding 4,838 metaphorical expressions for year-by-year diachronic tracking. The findings are as follows. First, the semantic distribution of 生活 exhibited statistically significant variation across years (χ²(18) = 320.85, p < .001), with a marked increase in the livelihood type in 1948 (51.1%, z = 7.39) and in the cultural life type in 1949 (7.6%, z = 6.94). Second, conceptual metaphor analysis revealed a systematic shift: the UP/DOWN metaphor (LIFE IS UP/DOWN) decreased from 62.3% to 48.7%, while the CONSTRUCTION metaphor (LIFE IS CONSTRUCTION) increased from 11.9% to 21.2%. Third, cross-tabulation of semantic types and metaphor types showed a statistically significant association (χ²(20) = 1,243.42, p < .001, Cramér’s V = 0.253): the livelihood type was systematically associated with the UP/DOWN metaphor (z = 12.29), the survival type with the STRUGGLE metaphor (z = 8.10), and the cultural life type with the CONTAINER metaphor (z = 17.80). These systematic correspondences suggest that shifts in semantic distribution and the selective activation of conceptual metaphors operated as an interconnected process, reflecting how ideological reorientation in revolutionary China was linguistically encoded through the co-evolution of lexical meaning and conceptual metaphor.
