초록
This study analyzed the learning differences between radical and incremental Knowledge Intensive Business Service (KIBS) innovations, focusing on KIBS firms and economic actors within the KIBS sector, which plays a critical role in service economy growth and public service innovation. The research defined radical and incremental KIBS innovations based on a demarcation approach to service innovation. The findings reveal that both radical and incremental KIBS innovations involve continuous learning from customers during the process of delivering KIBS service outputs to the customers' service operation organizations. However, radical KIBS innovations were found to involve more learning from customers and existing service providers compared to incremental KIBS innovations. Similar to existing KIBS innovation studies, this research confirmed the importance of the customer's role and identified government policy-driven radical KIBS innovation. This suggests a theoretical implication for innovation theory by highlighting a policy-driven innovation process in addition to the traditional technology- and market-driven processes. The results and theoretical implications of this study support the demarcation approach to service innovation theory. However, as this study is a qualitative comparative case study of a small number of cases, it's necessary to expand the research through diverse cases and quantitative approaches.
