The Relationship between Perfectionism and Performance Flow in College Students Majoring in Music: the Mediating Effects of Music Performance Motivation and Music Performance Anxiety

초록

This study aimed to structurally investigate the effects of perfectionism on music performance mo tivation, music performance anxiety, and music performance flow. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 299 music majors from across the country. We measured perfectionism by distinguish ing between positive and negative perfectionism, and also used scales for music performance motiva tion, music performance anxiety, and music performance flow. The results indicated that the rela tionship between positive perfectionism and music performance flow was sequentially mediated by music performance motivation and music performance anxiety. In contrast, negative perfectionism was significantly related only to music performance anxiety, and the sequential mediating effect was not supported. These findings suggest that higher levels of positive perfectionism in musicians are as sociated with increased music performance motivation, reduced music performance anxiety, and en hanced music performance flow. The study underscores the importance of strengthening motivation and alleviating anxiety to support musicians’ development in music education and counseling, and provides foundational data for future research.
