대항기억으로서의 지역문학 ― 지역의 과거사를 중심으로 경남 지역문학 읽기 ―
초록
In the official memory managed and institutionalized by the state/central/Seoul, regions are subordinate to the state/central/Seoul, and their value and role are inevitably shaped by these entities’ needs and interests. Local literature has actively played a role in remembering and bringing marginalized and otherized elements to the public discourse, opposing this structural inequality of official memory. Therefore, the literary work of remembering and publicizing the past histories of alienated and excluded regions is significant in that it forms counter-memories that critique and reflect on the homogeneous and dominant values presented by official memory. Moreover, it is meaningful from the perspective of regional identity. Regional identity, which involves the collective perceptions, attitudes, and lifestyles of local residents, is not fixed. It is variable and multifaceted, evolving with the changes in time and the community members. Memory serves as one of the focal points in defining regional identity. The shared memory of historical events in the region plays a crucial role in forming a regional identity based on the collective awareness of the local residents. Therefore, the process by which locals build and share a collective memory through literature is an appropriate method for establishing regional identity from the perspective of regional subjectivity, breaking away from the previously otherized status and image.
