FGI를 통해 본 다문화 사회를 위한 한국어 교육

초록

This study aims to gather perspectives on Korea’s multicultural society from stakeholders involved in the Korea Immigration & Integration Program (KIIP). Through the KIIP, the Korean government enables immigrants to quickly acquire the Korean language and culture, helping them overcome communication barriers and successfully settle as members of Korean society. Although the Ministry of Justice is the primary governing body for the KIIP, the program’s focus on Korean language education necessitates educational collaboration with the National Institute of Korean Language and other relevant organizations. In terms of content, the KIIP provides education on essential knowledge for living in Korea, including the Korean language, economy, society, and law. Additionally, a pre-test is conducted to measure immigrants’ Korean proficiency and their understanding of Korean society following the education. To facilitate these educational and evaluative processes, the Ministry of Justice designates regional hub institutions and operating agencies to manage the program. These institutions are responsible for program administration and the management of instructors who teach Korean language and multicultural understanding. Ultimately, the KIIP—as a preparation for a multicultural society—is a program that requires the development of educational curricula, teacher training, and textbooks that collectively consider both regional contexts and the specific circumstances of the learners.
