경상방언 부사형 어미 ‘-이’의 문법 범주와 실현 양상-파생 형용사에 결합하는 ‘-이’형을 중심으로-

초록

The purpose of this study is to recognize the existence of the adverbial ending ‘-이’ in Gyeongsang dialects, and to reveal its functional and distributional characteristics. In the case of the modern central Korean/ standard Korean, ‘-이’ is functionally differentiated as an adverbial derivational affix after adjectives and ‘-게’ as an adverbial ending. This is because, except for a few examples, the ‘adjective + -이’ form can be explained as an adverb. However, this is not the case with ‘-이’ in the Gyeongsang dialects. In the Gyeongsang dialects, not only ‘-게’ but also ‘-이’ fulfills the function of an adverbial ending, just as it did in the Middle age Korean. In particular, it is very productive when combined with derived adjectives. In this respect, the existence of ‘-이’ as an adverbial ending in Gyeongsang dialects should be recognized and its function and distribution should be discussed anew. In Gyeongsang dialects, ‘-이’ is used after derivational adjectives of the form ‘-하-, -스럽-, -롭-, -다랗-’ and ‘–앟/엏-’, and there are no special constraints on their combination. Furthermore, the number of adjectives derived from these affixes is much higher than in central languages. In addition, ‘-이’ can be combined with stems that can only be combined with ‘-게’ in the modern central Korean/standard Korean. These points show that ‘-이’ is highly productive as an adverbial ending in Gyeongsang dialects. In addition to this productivity, the fact that it relates to other arguments and that it still has descriptive properties when used as an adjective are also grounds for considering ‘-이’ as an adverbial ending in Gyeongsang dialects.
