A Proposal for Ethical Counselling Based on Aristotle’s Theory of Happiness

초록

Ethics education serves as a discipline that supports students in orienting themselves toward a more fulfilling life and virtuous society. Beyond the classroom, ethics teachers can further this aim by engaging in ethical counselling that nurtures students’ pursuit of meaningful lives. Grounded in Aristotle’s theory of happiness (eudaimonia), such counselling provides students with philosophical guidance that can be translated into their personal experiences, thereby enabling them to approach a flourishing life. This study explores the core tenets of Aristotle’s account of happiness and considers their practical applicability for ethical counselling. Building on this proposal, it sets out a framework for counselling strategies that ethics teachers may implement to support students’ cultivation of virtue and flourishing.
