This paper examines the transformative effects of ChatGPT on both general and English writing pedagogy in higher education as it ushers in an era of redefined writing practices. Rather than detailing its practical application as an empirical study outcome, this research aims at a reflective investigation of the challenges that ChatGPT poses for writing technology and English writing pedagogy. Drawing from a blend of online references and a limited number of scholarly publications on ChatGPT’s role in writing instruction, the paper attempts to forecast its influence on composition methodologies. The discussion also extends to possible reconstructions in English writing instruction for both native speakers and Korean EFL learners.
