Design and Analysis of an Electric Motor Cooling System for a Small Electric Propulsion Ship

초록

Small ships equipped with electric propulsion typically operate under high-speed and high-load conditions, causing alarge amount of heat to be generated from the electric motor. Therefore, it is crucial to appropriately design acooling system for effective cooling. In this study, a seawater cooling system for electric motors was designed, anda heat flow analysis of the heat exchanger was performed considering a small electric propulsion ship using twoelectric motors. Under harsh conditions where the seawater temperature was 30 °C, the motor coolant temperaturedecreased from 65 °C to 48 °C. This confirmed the ability of the system to maintain the temperature at or belowthe target temperature of 50 °C at the heat exchanger outlet under harsh conditions.
