Anlysis of the Flora and Vegetation Structure of Seolsan Wetland in Jirisan National Park

초록

This study investigated the flora and vegetation structure of Seolsan Wetland in Jirisan National Park to establish a baseline for monitoring future changes and to propose strategies for its management and conservation. The vascular plant survey identified 197 taxa, comprising 68 families, 138 genera, 170 species, 3 subspecies, 20 varieties, and 4 forms. Key taxa included six endemic species, such as Salix koreensis and Cynanchum wilfordii, three rare species, including Fraxinus mandshurica var. serrata, and Sasa borealis, classified as floristic target species of grade V. Wetland-preference species accounted for 28 taxa (14.2%) of the total. In the tree layer, Salix pierotti dominated, whereas the herbaceous layer showed variation in composition depending on water levels. Obligate wetland and facultative wetland plants were prevalent in areas with water above the surface, while facultative wetland and facultative plants dominated in zones where water levels aligned with the ground. Obligate upland plants were predominant in areas with water below the surface. The condition of stone retaining wall and the inflow of surface water were identified as critical factors influencing the wetland's current state. Therefore, preserving the abandoned terraced paddy field wetland necessitates systematic management based on continuous monitoring of its physical environment, including stone retaining wall, waterways, and topography, alongside biotic components.
