초록

The aim of this study was to develop of a scale to measure happiness of Korean middle aged working men. The initial items were made by integrating the attributes of happiness shown in the literature review and the analysis results of descriptive qualitative data. Participants were 248 middle-aged working men between 45 and 64 years old. The verification of the preliminary tools was analyzed by SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 25.0 The final scale consists of five factors and 24 items that were found to explain 61.9% of the variance. The convergent validity was found to be positive correlation(r=.76, p<.001) with the Oxford Happiness scale translated into Korean and the concurrent validity was found to be positive correlation(r=.64, p<.001) with the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale translated into Korean. The reliability as verified by the split-half reliability was .73∼.88, and Cronbach's alpha was .91. The scale was developed to comprehensively reflect the happiness attributes of Korean middle-aged working men felt within their unique culture. It’s helpful for a comprehensive evaluation of the happiness and identifies various influencing factors. Ultimately, we could develop a theory about Korean middle-aged men’s happiness and a nursing intervention to promote their happiness.
