초록
This research aims to analyze the changes in the gilnori (street parade) of Suyeong Yaryu and explore desirable ways to utilize it in the present context. The gilnori of Suyeong Yaryu originated from the traditional village rituals (dongje) of the Suyeong region and evolved into a unique form over time, intertwining with events such as military rituals (gunnarye) and local deity worship festivals (seonghwangje). These dongje-centered rituals were deeply embedded in the lives of the Suyeong residents, significantly influencing the ritualistic nature of Suyeong Yaryu's gilnori. However, Suyeong Yaryu's gilnori, which was originally highly ritualistic, has shown a tendency to transform into a communal celebration-oriented gilnori due to economic conditions and political landscapes shaped by industrialization during its restoration process. Moreover, since its designation as cultural heritage, the gilnori has faced temporal and spatial constraints, leading to its shift into a fixed performance. With the support of government cultural heritage policies and the development of performance culture, the focus of Suyeong Yaryu's gilnori has increasingly centered on talnori-style (mask play) performances, further diminishing its ritualistic essence. From a cultural-historical perspective, however, traditional gilnori should simultaneously pursue communal participation and interest as well as the ritualistic functions of fostering internal cohesion among local residents and addressing shared concerns. In other words, both communal festivity and ritualistic significance are intrinsic characteristics of traditional gilnori. Therefore, this research seeks to highlight the ritualistic aspects of Suyeong Yaryu's gilnori, which have been weakened by social and cultural changes, thereby reaffirming its inherent value.
