This study examines the role of a hybrid business incubator (HBI) in the specialized high-tech sector, specifically within the regional innovation system of Seoul. The objectives are to gain a comprehensive understanding of the mechanism by which internal and external collaborations influence tenant firms and to investigate the crucial role of the HBI in facilitating collaborative partnerships. The AI Yangjae Hub is a technology-based HBI that has emerged through the convergence between the government and universities in regional innovation systems. The case HBI plays a pivotal role in assisting early-stage start-ups by facilitating networking opportunities, acquiring complementary technologies, and actively engaging in matchmaking activities with external firms. Through these features, the HBI provides a safety net for start-ups, enabling them to explore collaboration opportunities, such as business opportunities, financial investment, and technological collaboration. The findings of this case study contribute to the literature on business ventures, knowledge mobilization, and innovation in the context of HBIs in the digital era.
