〈소현성록〉 대화 장면에 나타난 설득 화법의 특징과 교육적 시사점
초록
The family novel serves as an appropriate material for examining the dialogue norms of Confucian language culture during the late Joseon Dynasty. In particular, Sohyeonseongrok—an early work of the genre—describes a variety of everyday speech acts centered around an idealized character. Through this, it reflects the conversational ideas aspired to by upper class readers of the period. An analysis of the persuasive speech of the central characters, based on the use of motivational mechanisms, reveals that their motivational method varies depending on the conversation partner and the specific situation. Autonomy-support speech is used in scenes where So Hyeonsung recommends his relatives against acting impulsively. Competence-support speech is used in scenes where he admonishes and encourages his wife to recognize and affirm her status in the family. In scenes where Yang—So Hyeonsung’s mother comforts her children from feeling isolated and helpless due to psychological inadequacy, intimacy support speech is used to sympathize with the concealed emotion of the opponents. The persuasive speech of Sohyeonseongrok allows one to understand the persuasion method and its effect concretely as it utilizes various motivation mechanisms. Additionally, one should critically accept the exclusiveness of familism revealed in the dialogue scenes in which the effect of persuasion is described discriminately based on the status of the speaker within the family hierarchy.
