This research involves an experimental and numerical study of the laminar flows of a non-Newtonian fluid and the turbulent flows of a Newtonian fluid through a concentric annulus, in combination with a bulk axial flow and inner cylinder rotation. The problem of instability of the isothermal viscous flow between a rotating concentric annulus is also an important problem in a rotating electrical machine, particularly in oil well drilling. The study involves the phenomena and variables that control the rate of heat transfer in the gap of a rotating annulus. The objective of this study is to research the non-isothermal case showing the effect of a radial temperature gradient in the annulus on the instability of this type of flow. The study also investigated the effect of axial flow rate, the rotational speed of an inner cylinder, and the temperature gradient between the cylinders in terms of heat transfer.
