초록
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cold treatment(CT) and heat treatments(HT) on isokinetic muscle contraction of the quadriceps femoris. Eleven college students (9 men, 2 women) voluntarily participated in the study (height: 173.2±5.8 cm, weight: 69.2±6.8 kg, BMI: 23.1±1.8 kg/m2, age: 23.5±1.0 years). Quadriceps strength was measured five times at a speed of 60°/s in a seated position on a dynamometer, and muscle activity of the rectus femoris (RF), vastus medialis (VM), and vastus lateralis (VL) was simultaneously measured. The interventions consisted of cold and heat treatments, the order of which was randomized, with a 5-minute recovery interval between the two treatments. The results of this study are as follows. When isokinetic muscle contraction was performed simultaneously with skin temperature intervention of the quadriceps femoris, peak torque was significantly higher in cold treatment than in heat treatment at an angular velocity of 60°/s (t=4.673, p=.001). In addition, in terms of muscle activity, CT was significantly higher than HT in RF (t=2.364, p=.04), but there was no significant difference in VM (t=1.988, p=.075) and VL (t=1.774, p=.106). The results of this study suggest that cold treatment of the quadriceps femoris skin during isokinetic contraction has a significant effect on peak torque and muscle activity compared to heat treatment.
