초록
This study used a concept mapping to explore the content and dimensions perceived by university counselors in foreign student counseling experiences and what they consider important. Fifteen counselors participated in individual interviews, generating 71 statements about their counseling experiences. Through multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis, two dimensions were identified: ‘International Student–Counselor’ and ‘Counseling Intervention-External Environmental Support.’ Six thematic clusters emerged, including: ‘Recognition of the Importance of Counselor’s Cutural Sensitivity,’ ‘Experiences the Impact of Multicultural Competence and Language Skills,’ ‘Recognition of Psychological Issues and Attitudinal Differences,’ ‘Experiences of Demand for Language Skill and Multucultural Counseling Education,’ ‘Lack of Counseling Infrastructure for International Students,’ and ‘Recognition of the Need for Tailored Services and Counselor Support.’ As a result of the importance ratings for the statements, ‘Recognition of the Importance of the Counselor's Culturally Sensitive Attitude’ in cluster 1 and ‘Cultural Sensitivity of International Student Counselors’ in individual statements were rated relatively important. This study is significant in that it enhances the practical understanding of international student counseling in university settings and offers a foundation for developing educational resources for counselors supporting international students.
