초록
Colorectal cancer is one of the most commonly encountered gastrointestinal malignancies. For the care of patients with colon cancer, early detection of metastasis is very important since it offers a chance to cure this disease. Therefore, common metastatic sites for colon cancer are well-known. However, the small bowel is not a common metastatic site for the colon cancer. Here we report a patient who received resection and chemotherapy for his colon adenocarcinoma and developed cancer in the small bowels 3years later. Suspected lesions should be biopsied and examined for a primary neoplasm to differentiate from de novo carcinoma originated from small bowel. Histologic analysis revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma. Although there is a reported case of duodenal metastasis from a primary angiosarcoma of the colon, this is the first report on small bowel metastasis in a patient with colon cancer. Here, we report the case together with a review of literature. (Cancer Prev Res 16, 189-193, 2011)
