고려의 동여진 기미주 확대와 숙종 9년(1104) 고려-여진 전쟁
초록
Examined in this article is how the Gimi-ju (羈縻州) units in a region inhabited by the Eastern Jurchen tribes were established and then expanded. Also observed is the causal relationship between such process and the Goryeo-Jurchen war that broke out in 1104. In February 1073, at the request of the Eastern Jurchen tribal leader (or a chief, entitled Beonjang, 蕃長), the Goryeo government installed a Gimi-ju unit in the region for the very first time. The exact location was the southern region of Samsan(三山, the Bukcheong area). Then in August the same year, Goryeo installed 11 more of them in the Samsan area’s northern region, as internal conflicts broke out amongst the Eastern Jurchen tribes. But before long the Gimi-ju units began to experience difficulties, as incidents started to occur. Goryeo was running out of options, and chose to reverse its current policy and return to negotiations with the Eastern Jurchen tribes. In the meantime, the Wanyen-bu(完顔部) faction was emerging as a formidable opponent, and as it continued campaigning in the Galajeon(曷懶甸) region, a confrontation with Goryeo was inevitable. After being defeated twice, Goryeo decided to return the eleven Gimi-ju areas back to the Wanyen-bu faction. And when the original Gimi-ju area also fluctuated later on, Goryeo first attempted to militarily subdue the region, even succeeding to install a local Gun/Hyeon unit, but was eventually forced to return it to the Jurchens only after two years, losing all the Gimi-ju areas in the end.
