『화산선계록』에 나타난 여성 연대의 형성과 확장 -‘동시몽’(同時夢)과 ‘수명 나누기’ 서사를 중심으로

This study examines the relational structures formed among female characters in the classical Korean epic novel Hwasanseongyerok, focusing on the narratives of shared dreams (dongsimong, 同時夢) and life-sharing. Although the women in the novel are initially dispersed across separate spaces and forced to confront crises individually, they gradually construct cooperative relationships through the sharing of dreams, information, and collective responses to external threats. These connections ultimately extend beyond emotional intimacy to encompass judgment, survival, and life itself. The novel first depicts female characters experiencing crises within confined spaces such as inner chambers and secluded residences. However, after the Hoeumhyeon episodes, relationships of cooperation begin to emerge through mobility, disguise, and role division. This cooperative structure is further intensified through shared-dream narratives. Unlike conventional dream narratives in classical Korean fiction, which often function as prophetic revelations granted to a single individual, the shared dreams in Hwasanseongyerok operate as a collective system of information-sharing and joint decision-making. By confirming the same dreams and strategic instructions together, the female characters construct a collaborative structure in which perception, interpretation, and action are interconnected. The life-sharing narrative further develops these relationships into a structure of collective survival. The novel presents lifespan not as a fixed attribute belonging exclusively to an individual, but as something transferable and sustainable through relationships with others. In this process, the female characters come to accept others’ suffering and survival as their own concern, thereby forming relationships that exceed simple friendship or emotional solidarity. Ultimately, Hwasanseongyerok represents female relationships not as fixed structures confined within kinship or marriage, but as relational networks newly formed and deepened through shared crises and collective responses. Through this process, the novel portrays women not as isolated individuals, but as relational beings who collectively sustain information, judgment, and survival.
