고려중기 역사계승의식의 변화와 ‘북한산주(北漢山州)’의 출현

초록

Examined in this article is the so-called ‘Bukhansan-ju(北漢山州)’ of Shilla, which has been known as a local unit only installed after Shilla was able to advance its territory to the Han-gang river area. Research reveals, however, that such concept may have actually been only a result of rewriting the name of “Hansan-ju(漢山州)” that had already appeared in previous records. So, discussed here is the potential reason for such rewrite, as well as the context that would have surrounded such deed, which can seemingly be explained with the people’s historical perspective back then. Among the references to “Bukhansan-ju” in Samguk Sagi(三國史記, History of the Three Ancient Dynasties) reveals a pointing to a local unit which happens to appear simply as “Hansan-ju” in other categories or other materials. And there are even cases in which the reference simply does not reflect historic accuracy based on chronological order of events. This does not seem like a simple mistake at all. It comes off more like an intentional rewrite of history meant for a certain goal. The supposed concoction of a new “Bukhansan-ju” concept may have been to insert a fabricated element of Shilla history & culture into the existing historical legacy of the Yangju(楊州) area, which had been considered for a while as the Nam-Pyeong’yang(南平壤, Southern Pyeong’yang of Goguryeo), and create another notion(or illusion) of Iltong Samhan(一統三韓, “All the Three Han entities were one”). Goryeo, which since its foundation had declared itself as a successor to the late Goguryeo dynasty, has been promoting the Iltong Samhan notion based on Shilla’s absorption of the other two countries, but it seems to have switched to a more aggressive approach entering its middle period, beginning with the construction of the Namgyeong(南京, Southern Capital) and culminating with the publication of Samguk Sagi.
