The Effects of Anxiety on Social Network Service Addiction among College Students: Focused on Mediating Effects of adaptation to university life

초록

This study was conducted to verify whether college students' anxiety affects SNS addiction through adaptation to college life. A total survey was conducted on students enrolled in one university in area M, and a three-month survey was conducted from September to November 2024. The final 425 questionnaires were analyzed, and statistical analysis was performed using PROCESS Macro 4.2 and SPSS/WIN 29.0. The main results of the study are as follows. First, in the analysis based on demographic and sociological characteristics, the level of SNS addiction of female students was significantly higher than that of male students in terms of gender, and the higher the grade or the better the grade, the higher the level of adaptation to college life. Second, it was found that college students' anxiety had a significant effect on SNS addiction. In other words, the higher the anxiety, the higher the SNS addiction. Third, it was found that college life adaptation partially mediated the influence relationship between college students' anxiety and SNS addiction. Anxiety not only directly affects SNS addiction, but also has been verified as a partial mediating effect by affecting SNS addiction through college life adaptation. Based on these results, this study suggested that it is important to develop and implement programs to reduce college students' anxiety, improve college life adaptation, and establish a system within the university to prevent college students' addiction to SNS.
