A Study on the Confucian View of Masters

초록

This study aims to analyze the roles and responsibilities of masters, as emphasized in Confucianism, and explore the implications of the Confucian View of Masters. In Confucianism, the role of a master is to cultivate the capacity to inherit tradition and create new things, and to establish a relationship in which masters and disciples grow together. In Confucianism, a master must understand the truth, impart sound principles and teachings to disciples, set an example by personally practicing the truth, and is responsible for providing optimal teachings that take into account the characteristics and abilities of the disciples. A reinterpretation of the Confucian View of Masters offers the following implications for overcoming the crisis in modern education and restoring the essence of education. First, it is emphasized that teachers can earn true respect from students through continuous self-improvement and spiritual growth. Second, communication between a master and a disciple, based on respect and consideration, plays an essential role in creating a healthy educational community. Third, we suggest that fostering a social climate that respects masters is essential for restoring teaching authority and improving teacher morale.
