대학발 창업의 성장추이와 지역별 특징 분석

초록

Entrepreneurial activities by students and faculty within universities play a critical role in technology diffusion and regional economic revitalization. Promoting entrepreneurship at regional universities can help reduce the economic gap between the Seoul metropolitan area and non-metropolitan regions, thereby contributing to balanced regional development. Accordingly, this study analyzed the growth trends and patterns of student and faculty startups at universities nationwide over the past ten years (2015–2024) to examine entrepreneurial growth trajectories and characteristics from a regional perspective. The results indicate that both student and faculty startups have increased nationwide. In the Seoul metropolitan area, the growth was primarily concentrated among private universities, whereas in non-metropolitan regions, diversification of entrepreneurial hubs centered on national universities was observed. Faculty startups surged in both the Seoul metropolitan and Chungcheong regions, while a dual-structure centered on national flagship universities emerged in non-metropolitan areas. Notably, regions hosting national flagship universities in non-metropolitan areas drove increases in both student and faculty startups, playing a key role in expanding the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem. This study confirms that university-driven entrepreneurship is transitioning from a Seoul-centric structure to a nationwide expansion. The findings highlight the need for region-specific entrepreneurship support policies and the development of collaborative entrepreneurship models among universities. In particular, differentiated support measures that account for regional disparities and the establishment of continuous monitoring systems are required.
