Latent Profile Analysis of Childbearing Intention among Adults in Their 30s: Differences in Self-Esteem, Family Strength, and Social Support

초록

This study aims to categorize subgroups based on the characteristics of fertility intentions among individuals in their 30s and to explore differentiated intervention strategies for each group to address the low birth rate. Latent profile analysis(LPA) was conducted based on the sub-factors of childbirth intention and differences in demographic characteristics, self-esteem, family health, and social support were examined across these groups. Specifically, an online survey was conducted for 500 adults in their 30s nationwide. The collected data were analyzed using LPA and Multivariate Analysis of Variance(MANOVA). The analysis identified four distinct latent classes: Indifferent, High Intention, Low Burden, Passive Consideration(PC), and Active Consideration(AC). Second, an analysis of psychosocial characteristics by group showed that the AC group had significantly higher levels of self-esteem, family health, and social support(received and provided) compared to the other groups. In particular, family health was highest in the AC group, followed by the PC, High Intention, Low Burden, and Indifferent groups. Third, significant demographic variations were observed across classes regarding gender, region, education, family structure, and economic status. By providing data for tailored birth policies and discussing practical implications, this study offers a strategic framework for addressing the low birth rate.
