초록

This paper traces the role of Aliénor d’Aquitaine, who participated directly in the Second Crusade(1145-1149) as queen of France and duchess of Aquitaine, and examines how her experiences during expedition influenced the annulment(Dissolutio matrimonii) of her marriage to Louis VII. During the crusade to reclaim the Holy Land, Louis VII and Aliénor d’Aquitaine encountered political conflict and tensions, which ultimately culminated in the disaster annulment of their union. In particular, the catastrophe at Mount Cadmos, which inflicted devastating losses on the french army, later came to be associated with accusations that Aliénor’s authority as duchess of Aquitaine did not appear immediately after the event but emerged much later in historical accounts. The conflict between Louis VII and Aliénor d’Aquitaine, exacerbated by the Mount Cadmos disaster, ultimately led to the annulment of their marriage based on the grounds of consanguinity. Aliénor’s participation in the Second Crusade was criticized by the oratores, who pray, as an improper political intervention by a female ruler; she was even cast as a primary cause for the failure of this crusade. As duchess of Aquitaine, her decision to take part in the crusade and later to pursue annulment from Louis VII stands in stark contrast to the submissive female ideal demanded by the western medieval church.
