간호학과 학생의 대학생활 적응 어려움

The purpose of this study was to explore the difficulties nursing students experience in adapting to college life. This study was a qualitative study using focus group interviews. The subjects were 80 students enrolled in a local nursing department, who were low level of college life adaptation. Their level of college life adaptation was analyzed using descriptive statistics, and their experiences of difficulties in adapting to college life were analyzed using content analysis. As a result, the average score for college life adaptation was 2.22±0.13 out of 5 points. The content analysis results revealed 9 themes in the experience of difficulties in adapting to college life, psychological burden in forming relationships, difficulty adapting to unfamiliar practice environments, tension and fear about clinical practice, lack of support resources, and lack of autonomy, which were divided into 4 categories. The themes were difficulties in academic performance, pressure on academic achievement, loss of learning motivation, isolation from conflicts with practicum groups, etc. These were categorized into “exhaustion of learning capacity,” “interpersonal conflicts,” “clinical practice stress,” and “vulnerable adaptive resources.” The findings will contribute to improving the quality of nursing education through future studies on the difficulties faced by nursing students in college life.
