The Parenting Efficacy and Parenting Stress of Japanese Mothers

초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the degree of parenting efficacy and parenting stress of Japanese fathers bringing up their children, and related variables of Japanese mothers bringing up their children. The subjects used in this study included 238 Japanese mothers who live in Okinawa, Japan. Frequencies, means, t-test, one way-ANOVA, and Tukey's Honest Significant Difference test were conducted using SPSS 23.0. The results of this study are as follows: First, the parenting efficacy of the Japanese mothers bringing up their children resulted in a middle-level score. Japanese mothers’ parenting stress resulted in a low-level score. Second, the parenting efficacy of the Japanese mothers bringing up their children relied mainly on their self-esteem and satisfaction of life. Third, the parenting stress of the Japanese mothers bringing up their children largely depends on their socioeconomic level, and their self-esteem and satisfaction of life. The results of the study can provide very useful information to mother’s self-esteem and satisfaction of life for the development of the program to foster their children.
