초록

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) impacted pedestrian activities on commercial streets and reshaped perceptions of physical environmentsand behavior. This study compares surveys conducted in commercial areas before (2020) and after (2023) COVID-19 restrictions to identifyfactors affecting pedestrian activity and satisfaction with streets based on street type. Findings reveal that physical environments significantlyinfluence pedestrian satisfaction. Specifically, essential activities, such as walking and waiting, and optional activities, like shopping anddining, mediate the relationship between physical environments and street satisfaction. Pedestrian-only streets saw increased density andsatisfaction, reflecting the public’s desire for outdoor activities post-restriction. Although community facilities, such as benches, support socialactivities and safety measures, like CCTVs and lighting, enhance safety by aiding space recognition and visibility at night, these features donot directly affect street satisfaction. Ultimately, to promote pedestrian activities and revitalize commercial streets post-COVID-19,infrastructure for both essential and optional activities should be maintained or expanded.
