It was reported that around 400,000 tons of waste or scrap tires were generated in Korea in 2017. Korea is faced with this urgent challenge of divering or safely managing waste tires which can pose a potential threat to public health, safety, and the environment. In this study, waste tire particles (WTP) were used to manufacture solid refuse fuel (SRF) by mixing with sawdusts. When more than 10 percent WTP was mixed with the sawdust, SRF pellets were not formed well. The calorific value of SRF pellets made of 5 percent WTP and 95 percent sawdusts became greater than wood pellet. Sulfur, nitrogen, and chlorine of the 5% mixed SRF pellet were detected within SRF quality standard. Fixed carbon of the WTP-mixed SRF pellet was greater than that of the wood pellet. Due to high sulfur content of WTP, WTP itself cannot be used as SRF. However, through the controlled addition of WTP to sawdusts, it was ascertained that WTP could be a supplementary fuel source to increase a calorific value of lignocellulosic pellets. ?
