Bond Strength Comparison of GFRP and Steel Reinforcements Embedded in Biochar-Incorporated Concrete using Direct Pull-O ut Tests

초록

This study investigates the bond behavior between reinforcing bars and biochar-incorporated concrete to assess its structural applicability. Direct pull-out tests were performed considering key variables: concrete type (normal/biochar), reinforcement type (steel/GFRP), and bar diameter (D13/D16). Results indicated that biochar concrete reduced bond strength in steel-reinforced specimens, with the D13 series showing a ~30% decrease. Conversely, GFRP-reinforced specimens exhibited a slight improvement in bond strength with biochar concrete. Additionally, both the ultimate pull-out load and bond strength increased with bar diameter. These findings highlight the potential of combining GFRP bars with biochar concrete to enhance mechanical interlocking and support the development of sustainable reinforcement systems for concrete structures.
